1926-1931 Feldgeologe in Mexiko und Venezuela für die El Aguila- und die Atlantische Raffinerie-Gesellschaft tätig. Von 1936-1942 Dozent und Mitarbeiter an der Universität von Illinois, von 1942-1947 außerordentlicher Professor für Geographie und Leiter der Abteilung für Wirtschaftsgeographie und der Universität von Puerto Rico. Von 1947-1951 war er Professor für Geographie an der University of Maryland und von 1951 bis zu seiner Pensionierung war er Forschungsprofessor an der University of Florida.
